Residence permit in Poland

CUKR card for Ukrainian citizens with PESEL UKR

The CUKR card — the transition from temporary protection to a residence permit. Temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens is valid until 4 March 2027. The CUKR card is a temporary-stay permit on special terms, valid for 3 years, for people with UKR status. We support the transition from UKR status to the CUKR card and help prepare the documents. Applications can be filed from 4 May 2026 to 4 March 2027, only electronically via MOS, confirmed through Profil Zaufany. After this period ends, obtaining a CUKR card will no longer be possible — only the standard grounds will remain: work, business, family.

Check yourself

Do you qualify for the CUKR card?

Three conditions are set out in the law, and all three can be checked before filing. If even one isn't met — we'll say so honestly and find another ground.

01

UKR status

You had a valid PESEL UKR on 4 June 2025.

02

365-day continuity

Your UKR status was maintained continuously for at least 365 days.

Leaving Poland for more than 30 days with loss of status breaks the continuity.
03

Status on the filing date

On the day you file the application, you had a valid PESEL UKR status.

If UKR status doesn't fit for the CUKR card, consider other grounds: work, business, or family reunification.

Comparison

Stay on UKR or switch to CUKR?

UKR status is living out its last year. We compare honestly — including what you lose in the switch.

Rights and opportunities

What the CUKR card gives you

Three years of certainty

A plastic Karta Pobytu for 3 years instead of a status that ends in March 2027. You can plan work, housing, and your children's schooling without depending on decisions in Brussels.

Work without formalities

Full labor-market access: no powiadomienia, permits, or ties to an employer. Change jobs — nothing to re-file.

Your own business

Entrepreneurship on equal terms with Polish citizens: JDG, all forms of taxation, including ryczałt.

Freedom of movement

Schengen travel of up to 90 days in any 180 — with no fear of losing your status over a delay abroad, as could happen with UKR.

Tenure toward permanent status

The CUKR card is a standard temporary-stay permit: time spent on it accumulates toward the tenure leading to EU residency.

A safety margin on deadlines

Those who file in time are guaranteed continuity of legal status — even if the review drags on past March 2027.

Potential grounds for refusal — and how we address them

CUKR refusals are almost always about the arithmetic of the status, not an assessment of the case. Everything is checked in advance.

A break in the continuity of UKR status

Leaving for more than 30 days with loss of status resets the 365-day counter. We cross-check your travel history against the register before filing.

Status obtained after 4 June 2025

A statutory condition — it can't be worked around. We honestly say “CUKR isn't your path” and find another ground: work, study, family.

Fewer than 365 continuous days by the filing date

We calculate the date from which the application will qualify, and file on the earliest possible day — the window is open until 04.03.2027.

Incomplete data in PESEL

Without confirmed identity and fingerprints, the application won't pass technically. We bring the register up to readiness in advance.

Missing the filing window

After 4 March 2027, the CUKR card is no longer available. We keep deadlines under control and don't put off filing until the last weeks.

Loss of status on the day the CUKR is issued

On the day the voivode issues the CUKR card, you must hold a valid PESEL UKR — we make sure the status doesn't lapse before the decision.

A voivode's refusal can be appealed within 14 days via the Szef UdSC. We support the appeal.
